Let's take a closer look at the speech introduction.

Welcome to this speech class. I am going to be your instructor. Please call me either Chris or Chris-sensei. In this course, you are going to work for a television station. Each speech you do is based upon a different kind of television program. There will be lots of people at the television station to help you become a captivating speaker in English. Let's meet them now.

Hello, my name is George. Giving a speech is easy if you follow these steps. First you start off with an idea about what you want to say. This should help clarify the purpose of your speech and the topics you should cover when you speak. After that you can write down a few set phrases, which will help you form an outline for you speech. From there you should think about your voice. How will you say your speech? Then what kind of actions will make your speech more interesting? After these decisions, you should practice a few times. Then you will be ready to deliver your speech. No worries.

Hello, it is nice to meet you. My name is Sue. Did you know that speeches are largely made up of set phrases. Set phrases are useful sentences that do important functions like greeting people or introducing someone. For example, "it is my great pleasure to introduce..." is a set phrase. Don't worry, I know there is a lot to remember. I will help you out. I am looking forward to working with you. Do you have any questions?

Hello, I am Betty. I will give you some good advice about preparing your speech. You need to type it. When you type make sure to double space. Then it is easier to add extra information. Finally, your speech should not be longer than one or two pages. Good luck!

Hello, I am Alice. I will tell you about your schedule. We will work in two week blocks. During the first class you will write your speech. If you work hard in class, you will not have much homework. At home you will need to type your speech. Then in the second class, you will practice giving your speech. This two week system will give you lots of chances to write and speak!

Hello, I am Dave. I will be your voice trainer. When you give a speech, it is important to have a nice and clear voice. Then your audience will have no trouble hearing you. You don't need to shout. Just speak a little louder than you usually do. I am sure that you will do fine.

Hello, I am John. I will teach you the importance of body language. A captivating speech is more than just words. You have to move your body too. I know, at first you might feel uncomfortable. Don't be shy. With a little practice, you will learn how to use your arms, eyes and even your smile to capture your audience's attention. In the end, they will be totally focused upon you!
Speaking in front of people can be scary sometimes. A supportive crowd can make all the difference in the world. Here are a few things that you, the audience, can say and do to show your interest in the speaker. First you can nod. When I say something important. Or you can say, ah huh. At the end of my speech you can clap, whistle or even cheer. All of these things will make the experience of giving a speech more pleasurable!
